middle of nowhere
ok yesterday i bought this hybrid cat and i put it in my tank and it seems to be constantly taking deep breaths like he is gasping for air... but i have other fish that are fine... is this normal for catfish in general or to this species... and i do have a fluval fx5 and a well aerated tank so i am not sure why he is doing this answers please?

mine did that for a while i also had a channel cat do the same. if you watch it sometimes it will regergitate in its mouth and eat the food again. mine did this alot after feeding. i only have expirience till the 12" mark thats when mine got killed.(roomates)

p.s. you do know that fish will get HUGE right.

Going to ask the typical questions about water chemistry, but got to rule them out. Where is the ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate levels at? These cats will puke sometimes if fed just before they are moved, if they are really stressed, or if they decided to eat something like a rock or fake plant. This really fouls the water bad. At that size it shouldn't be horrible, but still hard for the biofiltration to catch up. Also, what's your temp at, how hard is the water he's in, and what is the pH? Does he have a place to hide? When my little hybrid liked a little cover, especially when he was new. Sorry to bombard you with questions, but it's really the only way anyone will actually be able to help. :) Hope to hear he's doing well.

its completely fine. alot of the hybrids breathe hard. mine looks like there is no air in th tank. and then he swims around all happy and goes right back to breath/sleep
