alright, thats not totally true, ive owned turtles before, when i was 3. i just aquired a 5 inch yellow bellied slider. im kinda confused with the feeding of this guy. i know he eats feeder fish, but im not to keen on giving them to him. what type of veggies should i give him, and please dont say lettuce, please tell me what king of lettuce, there are many types, and i know he does not like radicio. also, will he take the comercially prepared foods, or how about any fish foods, like pelets for predetors, or omnivors. any advice would be great. also, since i got him a week earlier than i thought i was getting him, what type of substrayte would be best for him, sand, gravel (medium fine) the more details the better, even some good web sites, its so hard to find then on turtles.

I would say barebottom is better. Turtles are MESSY. Try pretty much any king of lettuce OTHER than iceberg. Try some of that comerrcial food too. =)

Get him on prepared turtle pellets. If he is young it should be no problem. Even if he is old it should still be easy.

do not feed him feeder fish! they are like feeding him candy bars. feed him either crickets or earthworms (worms are cheaper and easier, crickets are tastier) for his animal protein.

I would feed him a variety of animal products and plants. They are omnivores. If you give him feeders, make sure they are QTed for a while and he only gets them once in a while. I would give him collard greens, mustard greens, dandilion leaves, pellets, crickets, worms, and other such things.

Agreed, I feed my Red Eared Slider all of the above mentioned items and he loves it all.
He doesn't get feeders very often, but does get them about once a month, only a couple.

well, im pretty shure that i did say i didnt want to feed HER (i just found out its a she) feeders all the time. i was looking for different foods. im gonna post some pics of her.

ive been feeding mines a variety of hikari turtle pellets, dried shrimp/prawn, reptomin sticks and am about to try them on some collard green

turtles love to eat and it shouldn't be a problem getting her to eat new things. aquatic turtle pellets and fish pellets are great and can be his only food if its high quality. i feed my turtles about 75% aquatic turtle pellets and fish pellets. i also raze a few different types of cockroaches for them because they are sooooo mcuh better than crickets, and are free since they breed non stop, also they are almost maintenence free. good greens for them are endive, escorole, and cactus, all of which have lots of vitamins and minerals but cactus also has calcium. superworms are also great and easy to breed, i just started my own colony and all my animals love them.
