Just brought home a new Upside Down Catfish. The LFS did not display the scientific name of the fish, but the staff member told me that they were 'true' upside down cats, not the fake ones that get much larger and nastier. This one is supposed to grow to about 3 inches.

I will try to go back tomorrow to find out the correct name, but is there anyway to tell my looking at them? I have not taken any pics as I am keeping the lights off for tonight so that he can settle in.

I was also told that they prefer schools of 4 - 5 so if I have the real thing, I guess I will have to pick up a few more.

He is settling in well - exploring the tank and loves the driftwood in the tank. Lots of hiding places for something that small - about 1 inch right now.

Any advice?

I checked the scientific name and yep: Synodontis Nigriventris.

So - I bought 3 more.

What characters they are. 4 is so much more fun to watch than one - with one I couldn't find him, but with 4 there is always someone zooming around - upside down.

I will upload pics once I have installed the camera software on my laptop. Hopefully will get it done tonight.

Very nice. I like the coloring on those

They adapted that way because they eat mouskito lavae off the top of the water. Very Very cool fish, I might get one myself! :)
