Mornin'! A few days ago we purchased a used tank and stand, and although the stand was ugly as sin, the guy used it for a few years and said it was sturdy. Well, after ripping off the super thin particle board, sheet rock ,and the fugly wood paneling, I found a stand that makes me uneasy. There are support beams leading to nowhere and the whole thing is sitting on 4 crossbeam 2x4s instead of the square frame. Here are some pics, let me know what you guys think. Will this hold up? If so, what, if any problems will be caused by the 4 2x4s with the floor?CIMG1044.JPGCIMG1042.JPG

Haha, you have no idea what it was like beforehand! I have so many pictures of the teardown, because after every layer of crap, I found more crap! Plus all of the support that doesn't do a damn thing, the sheet rock, oh and the galvanized metal corner strip under the paneling, oh yeah, that was fun for me :irked:

Looks not too bad really. Either build a new one or just add a little to this. Really your not talking about a ton of weight.. I would use that. Dress it up a little and good to go.

It should be sturdy enough but that is one ugly looking stand. Just for peace of mind I would build a new one so I know it's done right plus then it can be designed exactly how you want it.

Well, it looks like I'm just going to rip the rest of the paneling off and leave it that way temporarily. We're moving in 2 weeks so we need this operational in the new place at least for a few days until we get our current 120 set up there. Then I'll tear it all apart and rebuild. The only pain is that the tank that will be on this stand weighs a hefty amount because it's .5" glass, so it looks as though 2 lifting parties are in order! Anyone in central WI is welcome to help move 6 tanks with stock ha.:D

I finished ripping everything apart last night and took more pictures of the framing to get a few more opinions.

As you can see, part of this stand is put together using nails and screws, which will be fine I'm sure, but I just want a little more input. I have no idea where this person got their carpentry skills from :screwy:
