Just looking for suggestions on how to lessen this aggression, they have been seperated. The new fenstratum has been moved to another tank. Gonna let the zonata heal up before trying to introduce the fenstratum again. Any chance there will be piece. Both the fish are about 2.5". TIA

I just got rid of my two fen's because of similar problems. They were constantly causing issue in the tank. My dominate fen was 4" and would take on a 5" loisellei with no fear. I tried to introduce many other fish to the tank and the two fen's would tag team pick on to the point of killing a couple of fish. This from two fish under 4". I had them in with a 10" Midas who has always been kind of a puppy dog so I was shocked at how brutal these little guys could be. Now that they are gone I have peace in the tank again.

I am not sure if you will have sucess, of course the bigger the tank the better. I tried my group out in a 120g (60x18x26). I will be setting up a 210g pretty soon but I doubt it would have made that much of a difference even in there. The fen are such beautiful fish when they mature I was sad to let them go but I enjoy my quiet tank.

i had a breeding pair of fenestratus and the male was the most brutal fish i have ever owned(even when not breeding)
he was very gentle with his female, but would kill any other fish.
at 8 inches he killed
4-red hook silver dollars
1-11 inch pearsi
1-10 inch black belt
1-6 inch green terror
3-5 inch nicraquense
so no i dont think it will ever work,i saw a list on the internet awhile back(maybe someone else has seen it also)that rate cichlid agression from 1 to 10(10being most agressive)it rated fenes as 8's and after owning several i would kinda agree,my fenes made every other large cichlid i ever owned look like guppies as far as brutality was concerned.
i use to think they were that way because they were a breeding pair, but i kept on of the male growouts and he killed my trimac(both were 5 inches and grewout togother)so i gave him to a friend(he now has a 120 all to himself)
