I recently finished installing my first monster salt tank and and sump. I have friends in the glass industry, so it didn't cost me a kidney.

Sadly I don't have friends in the aquarium business and have to buy everything from my lfs ( although at a good discount). I estimated for the lighting, lr, and the odd livestock, to be in the $8,000 range.

I've been checking craigslist and the aquarium boards and I figured I could piece together what I want by buying a few used complete setups for about $4,000 - $5,000 in total. But out of that I could sell back what I didn't want separetly (tanks, pumps, sumps, etc) and get back about $1,000.

Only thing that concerns me is that I've never purchased used equipment or livestock before. And there seems to be a glut on them on the market right now, anyone know why? Also should I avoid setups that haven't been taken care of?

Well my my reason for why it is slow as not many people tell you the used equipment came from a disease filled tank and didn't properly clean the equipment and alot of time the disease still will live in those hard to reach and clean place's. as well as people failing to tell about a crack in equipment etc.... My best advice for you is ask everything about the used equipment before you buy like.

1. why you selling
2. any disease in the tank before the tear down
3. how long did you have the equipment how often was impeller's clean
4 any cracks on the equipment or tank
5 MOST IMPORTANT make sure you pay through PAY PAL

This is why it sometime's pay's to try to get a deal from supplier's or LFS so you know where the equipment is coming from and that it is NEW. I hope this help's you. If you have any other question's about used equipment or thing's to ask please Private message me I am alway's glad to help people so they don't get ripped off and get reliable equipment.

best of luck :)
