Hey guys I just picked up a wallago either it's a wallago leeri or a micropogon but I've been told leeri. I bought him yesterday at a lfs about an hours drive away he was labeled as a leather catfish and he was in a 20 gallon long for holding. When I got home I got a definite measure of 13 inches head to tail and I didn't get girth measures. He was sitting in a tank with several fish substantially smaller and he showed no interest. I'm crossing my fingers and hoping I didn't get a savage killer hehe I looked on the list that has all the banned species for California and they don't seem to be banned.well anyway here he is if someone could please identify either if it's a leeri or a micropogon that would be great and also if someone could tell me the value of mine that would also be great

Not a Wels, it's Wallago. I think Micro. Really, they sell for more at smaller sizes. From your size and bigger people tend to get rid of them for any amount, usually free, because they eat everything in the tank. So be prepared for that. I hope you have a 240 or larger.

I have bigger than a 240
I got an intex pool that can be stably heated aireated and filtered with several 55 gallon poly barrels I've used in the past for an RTC and I can work out setting up a larger tank than my 180 before going into the pool I think I have a rare find man especially for so cal I have no intentions of getting rid of him especially for free I wouldent buy the fish if I couldn't house it for life if that was an issue he would have been left at the LFS
