Ok so I just got a hydra outbreak in my 55 gal. I heard that you can get a hydra outbreak when you have a lot of zooplankton or whatnot in your water. My tank water has a lot of debri floating around (the mech filtration is lacking a bit).

My idea is to add freshwater clams to outcompete the hydra for food. I heard FW clams can make your water crystal clear (from debri anyway). What do you guys think?

The problem is when the clams die its almost impossible to tell. They decompose and it makes things worse. I have just read these things. I have never owned clams.

I would cut back on feeding a bit. Do you have "messy" fish that don't eat all their food? That can be a big cause of hydra.
