hello all, it been a while since i've kept a non hybred cichlid. its been all flowerhorns for the last several but i started looking at veijas recently having had a black belt in the past and could not get past the argentea. i just think they are stunning. so after some long searching around the shops of Toronto i finally found a lfs that had 2 aprox. 5" long, the shop owner claims they are wild caught whether they are or not i don't know but not being able to find any other it bought one. my question is this i have never owned anything "wild caught" and this fish seems fairly skittish, i have only had it for two days and was wondering if this was more common amongst wild caught fish rather then captive bred? Does this fish have the potential to be a glass banger? will post pics as soon as i can find the damn camera:D

Definately has the potential to be a glassbanger. Some argentea can be complete @..holes.

I've had mixed experiences with wild caught fish. Some have been wary their whole lives. Some have socialised beautifully into their new captive environment.

All most every wild caught i have had has acclimated into beautiful show quality fish, some took a little more patience than other but they all came around.my wild argentea male never had a problem as long as he could eat,he was fine.

To me the term "wild " caught is questionable unless you trust the buyer..
It seems there is a lot of questionable names thrown around in our hobby for the sake of increased margins.

I've got an argentea growing out now.. as you stated a full blown adult is a stunner for sure.. be prepared to keep him in a solitary separate tank once he matures, as their personality can range from tolerant to pyscho..

thanks for the input, i have hime alone right now would it be easier to aclimate him if there were some dithers in the tank? hes actually doing really well eating NLS sinking large fish pellets and is not hiding so much i will post pics later today hopefully.
