so I recently bought 5,2 1/2 to 3 inch wild caught rtm's there very aggressive towards each other and very shy I hardly can find them in the tank.My question is should I remove some of the caves in the tank or will they become less shy the more they realize I'm the food guy. These are the first wild caught fish I've dealt with any help would be greatly appreciated

I wouldnt remove the hides. Infact inwould makensure you have enough. They need to settle in. Mayne add some dither fish like giant danios

I have the bottom of a 6 foot tank covered in hideouts, when I picked up the Reds I also got 6 1 to 2 inch convicts hoping they could help.Ive tried danios in the past but it's hard getting any food past them

Dithers should help them feel comfortable. I use lamp eye tetras. Theyre pretty cheap and only get around 3"

I used to go to Forest Lake Pets whenever my sons had hockey games Minnesota in that area, and I agree one of the best.
The last time I was there, I picked up Astatheros nourisatti.

I agree about the dithers, but as far as removing the caves, I would actually recommend the exact opposite..... add MORE. As a general rule-of-thumb, it's good to have 2-3 times more caves than there are fish in the tank. In other words, each fish should be able to choose from at least 2 or 3 of it's liking, that way if they do establish territories, they always be looking at the next set of caves and relocate, so technically the territory established previously is cancelled out. Every week I see my cichlids in different sections of the tank for extended periods of time, but never the same place for too long. Why?

Well, when you're human, isn't the grass always greener on the other side?

When you have to choose between 2 things, don't you always wonder how things would have turned out if you DIDN'T make to decision you chose, and picked the other one?

Cichlids aren't that different....their intelligence is their stupidity LOL
