HELLO EVERYONE! SAW THIS SITE AND THOUGHT IT WAS PREATY COOL. I HAVE BEEN KEEPING FISH FOR 6 YEARS NOW AND LOVE IT. I HAVE DECIDED TO MAKE MY TANK A FRONTS TANK. I THINK THEY ARE BEUTIFUL FISH. I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS SO I CAN DO IT RIGHT. IT IS A 150 GALLON. I HAVE CICHLID SAND. I KNOW I NEED TO MAKE CAVES WITH ROCKS. CAN I HAVE GRAVEL TO OR JUST SAND? I HAVE NEVER HAD SAND. HOW DO I CLEAN IT? HOW MANY ROCKS? AND HOW MANY FRONTS CAN I HAVE I WAS THINKING 8. I HAVE NOTHING NOW I AM SETTING UP MY TANK TODAY. THANKS AND I THINK THIS IS A GREAT WEB SITE.

It's really up to you when it comes to sand vs. gravel. Frontosas will move whatever substrate you put in there around. I used to have pool filter sand in one of my African tanks, but since have switched it back to gravel. I have one frontosa in a 65 right now with a mix of pea gravel size substrate mixed with the larger gravel that's about 2-3 times the size of pea gravel. He seems to move that around less.

I wouldn't think 6 fronts would be ok for a 150 over 8, especially if it's a 150 long instead of 150 tall.

Welcome

First things first, watch the all caps post.

Next, if you use sand you will need to watch the distance you have your filter intake. Sand will damage the impeller. To clean it just hover the siphon just above the sand, or you will be adding more sand to replace what you just removed.

I never had Frontosas, so I can't answer the other questions
