New wykii not eating, is this normal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
He is 3" in a 100g, a decent amount of flow, levels are amo-0 Rites-0 Rates-20 or lower. His tank mates are a small Moto ray I'd guess a 5" disc 2 p. bass around 3.5" and it was with a 6" jurense that bit it's tail so it has been removed. Could it be settling in? To much flow? What's the ideal setup for this guy?

How long have you had him? I'm sure the experts will jump in (I haven't owned one yet), but if you've only had him a few days, I wouldn't be too concerned. Do you know what his diet was before you bought him? Also you do know that he will eventually need a tank to himself, right? They don't play well with others. Hope it works out and he starts eating, and please post some pics of this monster-to-be!!

Good info, Shane. As pointed above, you missed the most important piece: how long since you got him and it has not been eating?

They are unfussy and easy to keep generally.

Mine didn't eat for a couple days but once he settled in it was game on.He was about 4" or so when I got him I fed him tilapia, raw shrimp, and massivore.

It does not mean much - in fact, IME instant eating is an exception. Give him a week of good water and comfort, no stress, and he will eat. Mine three 3"-ers ate anything I threw in the tank with major gusto.
