Just received my 6.5" male F1 Xiloaensis from Rapps. This guy is a solid 6.5-7" and thick (I can tell he's been well cared for). He is getting a well established 55G all to himself (until he needs a 75G). As for the acclimation process, I've shut off his T5 light fixture to allow him to settle into his tank. He's still a bit shy/uncertain, but I'm assuming this is normal (given the circumstances). I plan on trying some Hikari Gold tomorrow morning. Would love some feedback/advice from fellow MFK'ers with Xiloaensis experience (especially those who've purchased these guys from Rapps).

nice teeth, and fish.i have not keep xilos before, but i think you can treat him as any amphilopus with regard to food,WC,etc.

Impressive Xilo, looks like he's going to be a beast when he fills out.

I agree, he is a looker. I would feed him exclusivly on NLS, post a pick in a month and see the differance. Treat him as you would any other Amphilophus good food clean water and pleanty of room to grow. GL

Thanks guys!

@ Aquanero; I tried feeding some 6mm Ther+A pellets tonight along with a few Hikari Gold pellets. He spit both of them out immediately after trying them (I have no idea what brand/type of pellet he was raised on). I'm hoping this is just the new tank jitters. Aside from not eating, he is becoming more active and patrolling the tank.

6mm TherA is too large for that fish, I would recommend the 3mm.

Give him some time to settle in, he should come around in a few days.
