New years surprise

I feed my pups chopped up nightcrawlers and they all love them. They will not eat anything for a few days though. I have had some fat pups go for a week before they were hungry. I wait until they get more active and looking for food.

Yes, what was said above. I started mine with red wrigglers as I found night crawlers to be too big. For me, tiny pieces to start worked best. I would then mix in mysid shrimp and finely chopped market shrimp.
I had some hystrix pups go almost 2 weeks before they started eating.
Patience, and target feeding.

Nice looking pups you have. Congrats.

I just got a pup who was eating only black worms before I had it to eat pellets by chopping up night crawlers really small. Like cut a slice of it then in half again. Sprinkled a bit of vitachem on top, then some powder from bottom of the bag of pellets on top and mixed in some vibra bites. I let it all soak in to a soupy mixture for a few mins. Then I put it in the freezer and broke off small chunks. 95F8E65D-7440-4E79-9F62-CF7A8F368F6C.jpegF3569073-E2D2-4883-B0E5-D409B5E25AC9.jpeg79FAD6EC-64FA-4656-9657-446621579E37.jpeg

it wouldn’t eat anything for about 2-3 weeks when I got it. So I went into panic mode and started trying everything I could before going to live. Once I chopped a piece of night crawler and it went for it I knew I had something to work with. It kept spitting everything out though so I was stumped.

a local breeder friend pointed out that the pieces needed to be smaller because their teeth aren’t developed as well yet. Once I had it eating steady 2/3 times a day, I chopped up more night crawler and let some pellets soak in the blood. It would try to eat them but end up making a huge mess and spit most out. Same idea realized I needed to break the carnivore pellets in 1/2 or even 1/3 and it seemed to take them and not leave such a mess.

now it eats straight pellets no problem.
