hey im new to the site. imn 14 years ald and obsessed wtih the hobby.
i have a 180,140,90,55,50,36 and 20 gallon. my 180 has a 14 inch oscar and a 16 nch ID shark. more oscars and stuff comeing. ok so i want ton make my 90 gallon a all pirahna tank. icanget for 15 bucks each some rbps the size or slightly larger than a quarter. i was thinking 12?? assume my filtration i s over par. howf ast do they grow? i want bigger ones but they are 50 bucks. im traveling to a different statr to get them cuz they are illeagle to sell in newyork. also how should ii decoraste the tank? alot of flow? what sdhu di feed? help!!lol

i would be warry on posting something like that. If there illegal to sell most likely there illegal to keep. Im not up to speed on laws in new york. But you defently do not want the law at your front door.. they have heavy fines and jail time

welcome by the way. post something in the intro section and everyone will welcome you

then lets say i WERE to get some... howfast do they grow, what do i feed them, how many in a 90 and how do i aquascape? ill research right now if its leagle lol

if you could use your 180g for them then you could get 12 and keep them in there for life. in the first year they can grow to up to 8" then they will slow to about an inch a year. They should be fed cichlid pellets preferably but raw tiger shrimp is also good too. along with any other white fish meat. aquascape the tank with some driftwood and plants..

i think they are illegal in NYC and requires permit in NY state, not too sure.
for pygos (caribes, reds, pirayas) they grow about an inch a month up to around 7" (some get larger some get smaller) then slows down. (piraya can get much bigger so they'll grow faster as well, I think to maybe 8" or so??? don't remember)
for 90g you can start with maybe 7 or 8 small ones (not piraya) and as they grow you may loose a couple. 90g would be good for 4-6 as long as your filter can keep up.

They can grow up to 5-7in the first year and about an inch a year after that depending on food, water flow and other factors. You should have great filteration, good water flow, and a good amount of hiding places(driftwood, plants, etc) IMO I would just just 8 for you 90g, You would be able to keep them a lot longer then 12 and you should be able to have a nice shoal with 8 as well :D Its better to have room for your fish then to overstock... I wont say anything about the illegal thing mostly because if they decided to make Piranhas illegal here I would be keeping something illegal myself. :naughty:

i think you need a permit. and illeagle in nyc. i plan to get 8 rbps. filtration will be a sump. i woulkd use my 180 but thats now dedicated to large fish. im also breeding some cichlids. today im picking up a mated pair of red devils, a loner red devil,a pair of convicts, a JD, an oscar,a pleco and 30 fry. all for free from craigslist. i alread have a 14 inch oscar and a 15-16 inch ID shark in the 180. the frys parents are, one is a black convict the other is a pink parrot. odd babiies lol. do pirnnahs hide alot?

Sorry your welcome to MFK is bittersweet, but we have zero tolerance for illegal activities.
