elk river mn
looking at getting a dat for my 420 gallon 4'x7'x24" it will be medium sized catfish and frontosa . will the dats and fronts be fine together ? and which of the dats stay around a foot ?
also is it better to keep more than one

looking at the id charts are the NGT somewhat common or are they there just for reference? what max size do they get?
thanks

so I have been scouring the interweb and have read many different max sizes for a NGT anywhere from 13" up to 24" . can someone give me a real personal account as to how big they have had one grow out ? Even for the other species of dats and how long you had it and how big it got. thanks

Did you say you had a 420gal? Not sure why your worried about a dat that grows over 12inch with a tank that size. Anyways i've seen in person a NGT that was around 18inch. Don't think theres any dats that only grow to 12inch. The ones i know all grow to the 2ft mark except maybe NTT's (thinbars) which i think stay a little under 2ft. Maybe AT's (American Tiger). Don't know much about them other than their liking of brackish water. gd luck

Biggest NGT I've seen was 18", most seem to get to 14"-16" though. I wouldn't doubt that if given ample time, space and food a NGT could exceed 18" but if that were the case you'd have the baddest NGT in captivity. They are somewhat rare and until this year I figured they were almost impossible to get but as T1 mentioned in a past thread, if you look hard enough they're around. They're also gonna be the second most expensive of the datnoids so get ready to pay up.
