Hi chaps,

New here, just stunbled upon this site which seems like an excellent resource for big fish keepers, have been keeping Oscars on and off for 20 years (both in uk and now in OZ) and just about to move the 4 I have (1 big, 3 biggish) to a pond I have just dug here in Cairns, QLD, Australia (tropics).

It's about 3600L (3m x 2m x 0.4m and then a deeper bit 2m x 1m x 0.6m deep). I'm assuming they will be ok as it's pretty warm here and coming up to summer / wet season. Looking forward to spectacular leaps trying to catch dragon flies etc ! they already had 2 in the house that had the misfortune to land on the tank. :)

Here's some pics of them -

Wow! Welcome and great Oscars. Can't wait to see the pond!

Thanks. Yeah Yogie, always dreamed of keeping Oscars in a pond or even a swimming pool and now that I'm in the tropics i can do it.
Badly taken phone pic attached, I'll take more as the landscaping etc gets done.
Bit worried about them as we've had plenty of rain last night but sun is out now and it's plenty warm. They seem a little nervous so far but hopefully will settle down and enjoy life outside !

those Os are gorgeous, you can tell that they are very well cared for its quite refreshing to see a new member with well cared for Os :) im sure they will love that pond, how cold does it get in winter there? i would think that if it stays in the 70s (in fahrenheit, i forget what that is in Celsius) then they should be ok year round but if it gets colder then you may have to bring them inside over the cold months

Nice oscars and great pond.

i really wish i lived somewhere i could keep cichlids in a pond but unfortunately Canadian weather dosnt accomidate for that. great looking oscars and beuty pond hope it works out for you
