hey fellas me again.

do i need to quarantine these tigers first, regardless of what kind it is
for gill flukes? is prazipro a recommended medication or coppersafe is fine?
or medication is not recommended at all? just raise water temp and add salt?

one more thing, some say they prefer sandy substrate? is this true or they will do well in any other substrate provided they have their own hiding spots?

thanks fellas! all replies are appreciated. i want to know them first before purchasing one. or trading my lei for it?? :)

Ok if you are deciding to get the NTT's they are the most shy of the datnoid species. They can live in any substrate. Mine prefer to be in gravel. When quarantining fish, I always use Melafix. Quarantining is a must because I have forgotten to do it at times and horrible effects have occurred. The disease will spread and kill all of your fish. Hope this helps

I never quarantine any of my fishes. I think gill fluke is a myth , anyone got pics? If anything doesn't seem normal after the new fish intro I will just add salt.

there is undue stress caused by dumping new fishes into medication unnecessarily... just bump up the temp and add salt if something seems to be wrong. The only time I quarantine a fish is if I get it from a fish store that has unhealthy fishes. Even then, I don't dump any medication. If something is definitely wrong, melafix won't fix it in time... try Coppersafe or something else depending on the symptoms.

Well the way i look at it is if its a fish that been in someone tank for years i wouldnt worry about it but if its something that is a wild caught guy say a little NTT or NGT which you know is a wild caught fish i would quarantine. Just look up all the datnoid disease cases where all those guys that had big collections of monster ST's,IT's, and etc put in new NTT's, NGT's from the wild and woke up the next day only to see their monster dats dropping like flys one after the other all due to whatever these new guys had. So you might regret not doing it.

yeah! ive read those threads about dropping dats. not just here but alos in other forums. thats terrible. so best thing is ask and know frst if wild caught then quarantine. doess this also apply to other kinds of tigers STs, ITs, ATs??? ive noticed most often its the NTTs who carries the disease.

I concur to what FunWow said adding that the main carrier of the "dat dieses" is the NGT (Ivan has some very good posts regarding this topic - AP site) so if you plan on getting one choose bet. trusted hobbyist or a reputable vendor ( Rapps has NGTs in stock).
