Newbie DIY for overflow.. Nid help on the plumbing!

I need help on the plumbing.. I just don't get how the water flow from aquarium out to the sump filter??? TNX!

got the picture from a thread at the DIY... to meny replies in the thread, i dont know which is which.. tnx!!!

First ? is the cap on an overflow, dont use it unless it makes a gurgling sound.
Second ? is the check valve. It sucks the air out of the top loop to increase water flow, not mandatory, but I recomend it.
third ? mark I cant tell if its going to the blue thing or the pvc.
The inlet sucks water from tank, and the outlet puts it in the sump. A power head pumps it back up to the tank.
 
how would you get the water to go out of the tank in the first place though?

my guess is putting water though the top cap thingie and the force of the falling water creates a suction somehow and thats how you start it.

im wrong arent i o.o
 
hey man i just built one of these there is a sticky at the top of the diy forum. it tells you everything you could want to know.
