I am considering throwin a Florida gar into my 75 Gallon tank.

1) Can a Florida Gar be kept with a Largemouth Bass relatively around the same size, and can I also keep a Bluegill thats relatively the same size as well ?

2) Is there any known cases of Channel Cat issues with Gars? Or can they live a normal life together?

3) How do you go about handling a gar when you are maintenancing the tank? I heard they can bite you if you stick your hand in the water..Is this true? How do you go about cleaning if your gonna get bitten?

Thank You

a 75g isnt going to be enough for a florida. or any gar for that matter.

i dont see a problem with keeping one with a bass considering a have a LMB in with a juvi longnose. same for bluegill. i also dont think there would be any problems with channels either. and no a gar (except a gator maybe) will not bite. they will simply run away.

no gar can live in that tank for life.
but itd be a good growout.
not sure about those fish so cant give any input.
yes,ive been bitten by my gar a few times before.
and yes, they have many sharp teeth and yes it hurts.
but mine was trained to be handfed and he didnt always get ot eat because of the competition in the tank.

skip keeping the gar with centrarchids, it eventually leads to trouble and/or unnecessary competition. you would be able to keep a Florida gar in a 75g for quite some time, at least a couple years, likely more depending on tankmates, bioload, feeding--
