Hi there, i just bought my flowerhorn 2days ago around 3.5 inches now. I put the FH in 50gal tank and was able to the steps before i put the FH like circulate the water for 24hrs, put Stress coat and Stress zyme, set the heater between 28-29 deg celsius before i put the FH in the tank. My question is why is the FH not eating the pellets everytime i try to feed it? Although FH looks healthy and comfortable swimming around the tank and looks not stressed. Do you have any idea why the FH doesn’t eat.

Try a different kind of food maybe freeze dried krill and see if he will eat that. I have one that is 8" now and still wont eat pellets. Best of luck keep us posted.

Typically when you get new fish they may not eat for a few days. All the stress of the move and all. Give it a place to hide away completely, so it can come out when it's comfortable. Turn the lights down, maybe get fake or real floating plants for cover.

Now the tank itself I fear is not a "cycled tank". It takes 30 days plus to build the cycle in an aquarium from scratch. Did you by chance start with an already cycled filter?

Thanks for the reply. I tried to cycle the water in the tank using the filter for 24hrs before i put him in the tank together with the API stress coat and stress zyme the one that was reccomended by a lot of fish keepers here in my country. Not quite sure if that is enough to help ease the stress Of the FH. I will also try to give him a different types of food like krill and blood worm. I will try to observe him for a few more days and see what happens. Appreciate it and thanks for the inputs. Will keep you posted.

Hey friend! I’m in a similar situation, I have a 100gal tank with a fresh flowerhorn I recently purchased. I’m new to this fish but also have a silver arowanna that keeps me pretty busy. I had a similar situation where he was uninterested in pellets for a couple day but now...he’s insatiable. During a water change I thought adding shrimp could help tidy up but after he found one of them he hunted the rest down relentlessly. I’m sure he’s just adjusting.

Hi friend, i guess you’re right, i should let him take some time to get comfortable with his new home. I just can’t wait to see him eat the pellets :) how big is your FH now if i may ask? Mine is around 3.5”. Wondering if a 50gal tank is too big for my FH considering he is just 3.5”? Thanks.
