Hello I've had an FX6 on my tank for about a year now and i've never had any trouble at all. I recently swapped some of my media out and removed some of the sponges that sit in the trays and replaced it with Bio Home media supplied by another company.

The filter is now very noisy and almost makes a rattling sound, I've taken everything out and cleaned it very well. I have also removed the motor and impeller and inspected it for damage or signs of ware.

On the actual impeller shaft there is a big black disk and then another disk that sits on top of it, should there be a gap in this space or do they need to fit flush? Also just above the magnet there is like a little bolt with teeth holes in for the big black disk to sit on but this doesn't sit flush it's like hovering just less than an inch above it.

Sorry I can't explain it in as much detail as I'd have liked to but any help would be greatly appreciated. I think I've exhausted youtube videos for now.. :)

Are you SURE it's not overloaded with MEDIA?

If it's overpacked with bio media, that can cause flow problems, and the pump will start cavitating because it's not moving enough water. Definetly DONT use the "fine pads" as that is a major contributor to this type of issue.

YMMV

Hello thank you,

If anything there is less media in the canister it's self so I'm not to sure mate. I've seen a video about the magnet and ceramic shaft moving and it looks the same as mine where the magnet has moved.

In the video the guy says to push it back down and it fixed his problems.
