I just got a 55g using rena filstar xp2 and rena 200w heater. I'm planning on getting a pair of firemouths that i found an excelent deal on. They are about 4-5 in. I was wondering would i be able to put a 2 in. salvini in the tank as well or will the FMs terrorize him? I've read taht salvini's are pretty aggressive even at a small size. I would also like to eventually add an EBJD when I find one in stock for the right price. I had 4 juvies but sadly they all past while I was on my honeymoon. I had a friend feeding them and due to a HOB filter and cheapo heater malfunction in my old 37g tank they all died. So I'm starting off fresh with a bigger tank and better filter and heater.

salvini should be fine with firemouths they can def handle their own however i think that tank will be too aggressive for an ebjd unless you get one thats way bigger than the other fish
Ignore the previous post, as I read up on the stocking of other 55g tanks the JD will outgrow the tank. I want at least one other cichlid in the tank aside from the 2 FM and 1 salvini. Any other suggestions? Also, what is the growth rate of salvinis?
Neet,Sal,FM - mini monster tank, I like the concept. If all works well this would be a cool entertaining tank. Hopefully you cycled the new tank thru before adding more fish.
Tank is cycled...I went with a pair of 4in. firemouths, a 2in. salvini, and a leopard marble sailfin pleco. They will be here tomorrow morning i can't wait. As far as eventually getting a neet, I'm kinda iffy about it. I've heard they can be pretty nasty. I read about one killing a salvini that was bigger than the neet.
