Some of us out there in the world were once ignorant.
What's the dumbest "TRUE NEWB" thing you did.

My first tank, a 55 community filled with guppies, neons, loaches, etc had been running for about a month. I was the only person I knew with a tank and was flying by the seat of my pants. The wife(girlfriend at the time) and I were in the LFS and saw a gorgeous little 1.5" gray fish(mistake coming). After assurances from the kid working at the store that he would be great in my tank and wouldn't get much bigger, I bought the fish. Fast forward 4 days and I notice that my guppies and neons aren't as, how do you say, ALIVE as they used to be. Fast forward 1 week, I have no guppies, no neons, nothing but a couple gouramis and plecos.......but I have a real nice royal knife. 1 year later he was a solid 18" 14 spots and almost 3/4" thick.

blessing in disgust..

newbie mistake: thinking red ear silder is a full aquatic turtle! end result DROWN!

hehe, thats a great story :D

bought a pacu and a tinfoil barb, kept them both in the same 10g for about 6 months. the tinfoil chased after the pacu constantly, finally one day the pacu chewed a hole halfway through the tinfoil's side. they were then kept in a DIVIDED 10g. I think I eventually managed to kill them both... was a looong time ago.

how long was it kept in the fully aquatic tank, before it drowned?

new tank syndrome i just got a 125 gallon tank and was so excited i didnt stop to think about all the warning that my LFS told me and i had a massive algae bloom, cloudy water, high ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, it went through a double cycle when it tried to correct the problem....i had to restart the whole process again but my fish suffured in a 20 gallon and 10 gallon tank for about 1 and a half weeks...no fish were lost....

When I got my first tank I didnt know anything about fish, so I just threw fish that I thought looked neat and they either killed one another off or out grew my tank so I had to give them to my boyfriend. How dumb.

i was 8 years old and my mom told me to turn off the pump ( that drives the undergravel filter ) so that the pump can "rest". I always wondered why fish would always die overnight.

I also once made the mistake of trying to net a 26" SH with a bass net.

Regular ole green nylon bass net. He bit through it and fell the the floor the second he cleared the edge of the tank.
