Hi Everyone,

My husband and I have been studying and learning as much as we can while we eagerly save up to buy our "real" first tank. I am sure at one point or another most people on here can say that they too have owned a finding nemo tank with a goldfish or two...lol. We are looking into a 125 gallon freshwater set up with live plants and discus. I have been heard many times over how delicate discus are and then told completely the opposite from actual discus owners. Needless to say, we are up for the challenge.

Glad to know that there is such a large community out here to support us throughout the process.

Welcome to MFK. Oh and good idea going for the 125 first, you'll save yourself some green going that route instead of upgrading two or three times from smaller tanks. Nice choice on the fish btw, that tank is gonna be awesome.

Thank you. I am so excited. My tank will be delivered today. We will be working with live plants and getting water levels stable before introducing any discus. I originally wanted to start with a 55 gallon but learned real quick that its best to have the larger investment upfront and save myself the trouble of having to upgrade later on.

Welcome to MFK. Discus are great fish fish and domestics are no more diffacult than most other cichlids. Clean water and a healthy diet and you'll be off to a good start. If you are doing a planted tank you will be better off buying discus that are already grown at about 4 -5" in diameter. As I'm sure you're aware make sure the tank is cycled before adding any fish. Have fun and ask lots of questions there are plenty of very knowledgable mambers around to help you.

welcome to mfk.....your in the right place to learn and it is great that you are taking your time and learning first.. nice to meet you
