is it good to use silica pool filter sand in saltwater tank then mix it with with live sand/rock, or if it makes a big difference, go 100% live sand/coral

i already bought/washed 100 pounds of it to use in a 125 that was meant to be freshwater but i changed my mind in the 2-3 weeks of restoring it

trust me i do alot of reading, googled everything first and most sites that pop up deal with saltwater pools/freshwater/not specifified, and i looked through the stickys

Pool sand should not be used in a SW aquarium.

I do not recommend livesand for lots of reasons. One being I think it is usually low grade. Two being there are no live bacteria in sand that has been sitting in a bag at petco for the past...god only knows how long.

I do recommend caribsea's "reef-grade" aragonite. Thats what I use...(and sell) for use on all of my SW tanks and others.

I DO also recommend the use of high quality LR...you will notice a big diference from the florida farmed stuff. It doesnt have to be all high quality though, you can buy some, and then make the base out of...base rock! :D

Hope this helps, sorry about the sand.
