Hey guys, I just finished setting up my 125 gallon tank and it is cycling currently, so I figure I should get an idea of what fish to stock in it. After doing some reading and hearing the opinion of my girlfriend, here's what I'm thinking:

1 jack dempsey
1 severum
1 oscar
1 Geophagus altifrons
1 small pleco of some kind, would love to hear suggestions

I'm a total newbie and have never had anything other than danios and mollys and the like. So, please, oh wise monster fish keepers, bestow upon me great knowledge and wisdom. Thanks! =)

I stick to the O,JD,Sev,and Pleco. Then have a school of giant danios or tiger barbs.

You don think the Danios would end up as Oscar fodder?

Everything you thought looks good. If you want some schooling action, try some Bala Sharks, they get a pretty good size, so i dont think they would end up dead too easily.

Danios are fast, oscars are slow.Keep the big fish feed with pellets, and the small fish should be fine.

Neither of those kept my Os, from eating some of my convicts...

sounds good. plus, the danios would make cycling the tank a bit easier.
You could have a Geo too,but all those big fish will make your tank look very small, and they are all territorial fish,so you may be pushing your luck with aggression. You will need a lot of filtration either eay. If you get some Danios, make sure to get the giants.

You can't really compare cons with danios. Giant danios are often kept as dithers with larger fish. There is no guarantee they won't be eaten, but it is done.

While they are very different physiologically. The point im trying to illustrate is simply; smaller fish, much quicker then oscars.
If our Breakspirit wants to add Danios to the tank, that his/her perogative, im just advising that the choice giant danios may (probably will) bow out badly fo the danios.

I appreciate all the input guys. Regarding filtration, I'm currently building a 30 gallon sump filter that will be filled with bio balls, scrubbies, and filter pads. I am of the opinion that once it is fully established, it will be enough filtration for the stock list we're discussing. Agreed?
