I was considering getting a couple apple snails to clean my Comet tank, but a Bristlenose Pleco was recommended to me instead. When I went to my one trustworthy, non-chain LFS, they only had Clown Pleco's there. I figured that since I would be putting him in a 75 gallon tank, I could take the chance with size issues for a while. Also, the LFS will do trades if the fish gets too large for my tank. I don't know much about plecos, only that they vary a lot in size and design. Can anyone give me info on Clown Plecos? Right now, he is in my 20 gallon tank relaxing from the drive. He is small now, but I don't know how big he will get. If he gets big enough, I will put him in the 75 with my Comets.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome. I'll move your post to the pleco forum

BTW, The algae in my 20 is tough stuff. Will my Pleco choke on it? It is like a hair algae. Green bushy stuff that seems to be trying to choke my other plants. I am guessing that the pleco will try to eat it, but I don't want him to choke on it. Will he choke?

Are there any recommendations for my 75 gal. tank with 6 Comet goldfish in it? I need something that will clean algae, won't harm my Comets, and can handle Comets as tankmates. Any thoughts?

The clown pleco will not grow much bigger than it is now, not good in with comets as they are coldwater fish and the pleco is tropical. I had a clown that I bought a few years ago and had it for a few years and it did not grow at all. The internet said they do not grow much in captivity but will get 7-8 inches in the wild.

I've just got a clown recently, I was thinking of moving it to the oscar tank to help out with algae in there, but I'm too concerned of the aggression.

Have you tried starving the tank of light, to kill it off?

you should use some granuate to filter phophor in your tank. Algae need a lot if that and normal plants only a very little, so it wont do harm.
