African lover who finaly stopped being lazy and signed up for MFK.

Im in the process of setting up a 150 and cant wait to post some pics and get some feedback. I'll throw some pics of my 55 up real soon.

I'd love to take a look at some of your tanks, so send over a pic of your pride and Joy.

:naughty:

Here is are the pics of the 55 as promissed. Non of the fish where in the mood to smile for the close up so I did the best I could. Mostly Africans, but there are some other guest in there, no problems yet so dont jinx it.

And I hate the fake plants (some are real) but I threw them in and rearanged the rock work as I had some new fish I was tryin to make sure didnt get picked on. I have no agression between fish (despite the mix) but they have made it CRYSTAL CLEAR that no new comers are welcome to the tank.

what are some some of the other of the none africans?

Well those who dont belong are the Jack Dempsy and the Jewel Cichlids, but I have never had a problem with these. There is also a random Catfish I rescued. I dont know what type of cat and havent tried to get a pick as it hides. The cat is all grey with some black spots 6inches plus.

5 Pics went in but 3 you have to link to on the bottom. I think the jewels are in that pic and luckily I have never had a problem.

I have 3 jewels and they seem to fight eachother instead of the tank mates.

welcome and thanks for sharing. nice tank set up.
I believe that the common jewel cichlid is African.
I can see that by the mix of fish that they would not be warm welcomers to a new fish. If you do add a fish, try rearranging the rocks to throw off their established territories, that may help.

Scientific Name: Hemichromis guttatus
Common Name(s): Common Jewel Fish
Geo. Origin: Ivory Coast to Cameroon
Habitat: Still or Slow-Moving Water with Root Tangles
Diet: Omnivore
Gender Differences: Monomorphic
Breeding: Substrate Spawner
Temperament: Mildly Aggressive
Maximum Size: 4""
Temperature: 75-89°F
pH: 5.6-9.0
Water Hardness: Neutral

Thanks for the correction on the jewel FishHead.
My last attempt at adding to the tank I did jsut what you suggest with rearanging rocks added new ones and even the plastic plants. But with that mix in there they made it clear "No New Comers". I find it funny b/c I dont have aggresssion between the tank mates.

Paul, thanks for the link to the pics.
You have a great collection. I cant wait to have the 150 up im going to just be snapping shots away.

As for anyone else whos got pics, I would love to see your set ups :headbang2
