Hi,

Been lurking here for a while, but ready to take the plunge.
I bought myself a used 90gal aquarium, stand, hood, lights and some rocks for $150 on Craigslist. I hope this was a good deal. Everything seems fine and it is not leaking.

I'm planning on finally getting an oscar or two for the tank.

Having never gone the "used" route before, what is the best way to clean and prep the tank? I'm thinking about stopping by a car wash on the way home and gently hosing out the last of the gravel and wiping it down.
(I live in an apartment and can't really rinse the tank out in my kitchen sink like I would my 10gal.)

I just bought a new 50ft python gravel/vacuum so I won't have any trouble filling, rinsing, etc, once it is set. I just wanted to give it a good cleaning to get everything out before I set it up.

Is it also a good idea to bleach it if I'm going to hose it out at the car wash?

Thanks, in advance, for any hints and tips on setting up my first medium-sized used tank!

When you us the pressure gun from the car wash make sure you use the low pressure and not the high. You could very easily losen a seal or knock some of the silicone off a seal. As far as bleach, nope. Some people do, but not me. There's just the slightest chance that you could leave any trace of bleach on your tank no matter how many times you rinse. Just hit up your LFS and pick up some fish safe aquarium cleaner for hard water and lime/calcium buildup. You could also use a razor blade for heavier calcium build up. Just make sure you do a leak test for 24hrs before you officially set up the tank.....
