Hello Everyone!

I am new here and have a question. We currently have a 500 gallon fish tank (my husbands baby) that had a miss hap. Long story short I thought it would be a good idea to have Dish Network come out and put satellite in our home. Well the guy that came out to install missed our outside wall by over a foot and drilled into our garage right into our 500 gallon acrylic fish tank.

Thank god it was not full but the issue is. Dish wants to just patch the whole that is more than half way through the tank. I just need some input on this.

The tank is about 10 feet long 4 1/2 feet tall and about 3 feet wide. The acrylic is 1 inch think. The whole that this guy put in it is like I said more than half way into the tank. About 1 foot from the bottom and 3 inches from the seem on the side of the tank. (3 feet wide side) As soon as I can figure out how to post a pic I will.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Is it possible to patch this with out it blowing out in the future?

Thanks in advance!

I'd demand a new tank and justify it by offering up supporting evidence on the topic of water pressure and glass. I'd not settle for a patch job, when the tank is actually totaled. Good luck.

Thanks Phillydog!
That’s what we are trying to do! But they say they know someone that can fix it. Needless to say the husband is more than pissed. Uhmm any suggestions on sites we can do some research on?

From a safety and structure standpoint it would probably be okay. People drill tanks all the time with much larger holes, as long as it didn't crack. Problem is that no matter how they fix it it will be visible. That would be my problem with it. If you ask them to fix it and take full responsibility of any and all damages if it leaks in your home maybe they will reconsider fixing it. A house full of water can get expensive.

that truly sucks . they should replace it. call cooperate.
they should have insurance to cover this no problem.

They do have insurance! Don't know if cooperate has called back yet. It was the field manager that came out. FUN jump through hopes to get things done right.

talk about being PISSED! good luck iwth this ordeal

That’s my husband’s thoughts as well. (Is it being visible) I think he did tell them that if they do fix it he wants a 5 year guarantee. But still that’s not enough for something that didn’t have a hole....
