well im new in the game and i just bought a lil 5-6" tarpon and put it in a 55g tank by himself wit some crawfish in there.. just lookin for some advice or comments. what can i expect? do i just feed him feeder fish?

Hi. Welcome to mfk.
This is a great community
And there's plenty of ppl here to help u with ur needs.
But yah back to subject. Becareful with that crawfish. It'll mess up ur tarpon a lil or if the crawfish is big it could even kill it.
But the tarpon will eat feeders forsure. It'll eat bugs blood worms black worms ghost shrimp mostly anything alive. And it is possilbe to get I on prepared food such as market shrimp or beefheart.
That's about it. Good luck with ur new tarpon its a nice fish. Hope to see pictures.

Be very careful with feeder fish, unless they are quarintined for at least 2 weeks, My oscars got very sick off of feeders, I thought they were going to die, now they dont get any feeders at all, just pellets.:D

Welcome to MFK. My advice is to try and stay away from feeders unless you raise your own. I would feed it prepared foods such as frozen market shrimp. Good Luck with it.

:welcome:

Hi and welcome to MFK. Please dont use live fish for feeding, it is unethical, uneeded and unhealthy for your fish.

Carl.

i also have a separate tank with a small peacock and i been feeding him feeder the entire time ive had him and hes grown fast. so im not really suppose to feed them feeders? the fish wont eat any kind of pellet or anythin motionless..

unethical?

I guess we think that processed food contains nothing that was ever alive?

Remember everything you eat or feed a pet was once alive & died, & not always in a humane way. I have never met a vegan tarpon, and I assume this one is no different.

The choice to feed live food is a personal one, just as is the one to eat meat yourself. If you choose to feed live food, just be sure it is 'clean' and gut-loading is a good idea to keep nutrients up.

Clean = raised by yourself or someone you trust. or properly quarantined prior to introduction to the tank.

Gut-Load = (over) feed the feeders a good meal just before they go in. That way the tarpon gets the benifits of the belly food.

Carl D; I do respect your decision not to 'live feed' but I also believe, if done properly, it is ethical, usefull and healthy for your fish.
