hey guys. not so new to the cichlid thing but all new to the whole pike world
. i just got a golden banded pike from my lfs. he looks great but i unfortunately don't know much about em. i always swore not to have a fish i know nothing about but it happened. i know he likes tetramin cichlid sticks, picking at my cats wiskers, and is pretty sweet to watch. anything else u can fill me in on would be great. thanks

Could you post a pic of him/her? Pikes do not have common names usually so it is hard to tell which is which.

I have to agree with Pirwhana. Gold-Banded Pike means absolutely nothing to me. I have no clue which species you are talking about. A clear pic will make a HUGE difference.

here ya go. it's still in the bag and it's still little but it's a decent pic. lemme know what u think.

Looks like you may have a Crenicichla reticulata. (I saw them before on Vin Kutty's web page, and went back to check).

I remembered because they look a lot like a sp. "bellycrawler" (which I have), except the reticulata have the caudial spot.

You can go here http://www.geocities.com/napavalley/5491/reticulatapage.html
for more info. on them.

I would check back here though to see what other's opinions are on your fish..... I could be wrong.

Nice pikeup, by the way. Good Luck.

It is in the reticulata group but is simply a good old fashioned Cr. sp. "Belly Crawler" A nice fish without to many nasty habits!

looks to be either one from that pic honestly. I noticed a eye spot on the belly crawler on that geo cities page as well, they both look very similar. Plus his has the 6 pairs of lines on it that indicate Sp. Belly Crawler.

The belly crawlers don't have a caudal spot though...
I am thinking it is definately a reticulata

Gettin a little cocky now aren't we? Well, best do a little more research before you start correctin the Scat!!! ;) Its definately, 100% positively, Crenicichla sp. 'bellycrawler' ;) The body structure, posture, colors, fins, and mouth all indicate Crenicichla sp. 'bellycrawler'...;). Sorry man...lol....BTW...Gold-Banded Pike? Wow!! What are they gonna come up with next?
