Hey All,

Well I have been fortunate enough to be able to have good success with my mabled motoros breeding. The first few batches have done great but I always like to hear what other people do and have success with.

Do you have your pup tanks plumbed into the main system with your adults or do you have stand alone tanks (filled with parents tank water and using established filters)?

I am currently using an area of my sump for the pups but can see this area not being large enough in the future so just looking into other options and planning for the future :) I like not having to actually move them into new water once born but cant plumb anything else into the main system to share water.

What are you using, what has been your sucess/problems and why did you choose this?

Thanks!

I went with pretty much the same idea Trev uses because he has had so much success. A 40b plumbed into the main tank. I have two 40b in a stack the top 40b overflows into the bottom. in the event I want to qt something I can take the line the feeds water to the top tank and move it to the bottom and the top can run stand alone.

I hope that makes sense because I have had a few summer shandys :)

Edit: also it is no longer held together by duck tape:ROFL:

I'll be adding several smaller tanks to my system in the future. All will have hard lines (in and out) plummed to them with valves and all will have stand alone filters on them. That way I have both options.

I'm giving up on ever deciding to do something right. I'm just going to start doing things several ways and hope that by doing it every way possible that the right way got done so that all I have to do is switch instead of redo.

I could see it going either way....... So my final answer is "Yes Please"........ "BOTH!"

Thanks for the info guys! Well basically the same thoughts I had just wanted to get opinions. Had good luck with the 12 pups born here so far in the last 6 months just like to see what others are doing.

Depending on how many pups you have and how long you want to hold onto them. This container I made worked good for 1,2 and 4 pups up to a month and then I sold them. You can watch them eat and even sex them as you can see underneath. The bigger the tank you have the bigger the container can be. It allows the tank water to flow into it and the waste just filters out the holes. Simple, cheap and very effective. After a month the pups are more then tough enough to move them to another tank if you decide to keep them longer. No need to make things complicated!

I just use a couple 45 gallon tanks with fluval external canister filters. The tanks are small enough to fill from the big tank and the pups are isolated on their own system. Tanks are bare bottom to make it easier to see if the pups are eating. When I don't have pups, I run the fluvals off the big tank to keep the filters seeded.

i have a 30 long x 14 wide x 14 deep tank on top of my main tank with a 1,000 lph pump in my weir with 2 drains which drain back to the main tank total turn over from the main tank is about 10 x per hour

i have 3 small tinfoils in the puppy tank so i can feed the new pups buffet style

i found if you have different water to the main tank with lots of uneattern food its hard to maintain good water

I've always just used a separate pup tank but I like this idea. Is the plastic tub free floating or attached some way?

It is just wishfull thinking for me right now. everything I have read has said pups do best in the same water/system as the parent. There is a small pump in my sump that pumps into my old fluidized bed filter {now filled with matrix} and a overflow box takes the water back to the sump in the pvc line. When I come across a larger tank I will swap it out with this 45 gl tank.
For now it is just for extra bio, volume and a place for the pothos vines.
