I set up a 55gal tank recently, my first tank in quite a few years and could not make up my mind what tropicals to raise. I decided to raise some native fish instead, so I set a minnow trap in a farm pond behind the house. I caught thirteen little bluegills about 1" long and released them into my tank. I'll be honest I never thought I'd get this much enjoyment from a few pond fish. They acclimated to the tank very quickly and are so cool to watch. They are constantly active, searching and exploring every inch of the tank and show no aggression toward one another even at feeding time. I tried feeding them pellets but they wouldn't go for them, but they line right up at the top of the tank and wait for the bloodworms I've been giving them. Some of them are starting to show some real nice color, I'll try to add some pictures of them.

nice bluegills, but they will grow up to 1' when older so you will have to get a larger tank or get rid of a few

Thanks, I'll thin them down and release most of them back into the pond before the water gets too cold this fall. I've never seen a 1' Bluegill, they seem to max out at 6 inches or so in the waters in my area but maybe thats because there's just too many of them?
