I designed another sump. Tell me what you think. The gray blocks will be either different coarseness filter flosses, or else different porosity Poret foam pads. Light gray will be coarsest/largest porosity, dark gray will be finest floss/porosity.

Sump will be 36"Lx18"Wx18"T.

What size tank would this masterpiece be used for?

My 220g wide (72x30x24). It will be housing several gar, several stingrays, and a variety of cichlids.

Oh, and thanks. I should give credit to NC_Nutcase, I'm stealing (borrowing) from his design a bit for this.

Over thought IMO go with 1 chamber at the beginning of the sump for filter floss and expand the Bio chamber. Done.

If you want 2 chambers for floss I would do one at the beginning and then put some on top of the drip tray over the bio but don’t waste space with 3 different floss sections.

Everyone Including me wants to over think Wet/Dry filters. Simple is better IMO.

There is more than enough bio in this sump for the tank I'm planning. I would rather go overboard on mechanical filtration, because I've been fighting inadequate mechanical filtration in my current setup. By going with several sections of mechanical, I can have a larger range of porosity, and will have a lot more media to spread out the filtering, resulting in less frequent cleanings.

I like the second one. It will give you all the floss you are looking for but save you the time and effort of putting 2 extra walls in. Which is not easy to do correct and make it look good.

Exactly my thinking, after looking back at the first one. I'm pretty sure I'm going with the 3rd design I posted.

In both drawings the flaw would be that as water fills from the bottom of the second chamber it will push you filters up and out unless you weigh it down. You would need to create a chamber between the 1 & 2 chamber allowing the water to flow downward through the media. This would also act as a bypass when the media gets clogged it would flow over the first chamber and be filtered by the next set of media.
