Well,
I saw him a week ago; knew I shouldn't get him...... then bought him anyway. Wasn't in great shape, but I wouldn't call this a rescue purchase by any means. I've just really been wanting a large knife recently. My little brown knife seems almost maxed out, and at his size, he's only really compatible with my Sen. bichir, and nothing else.

So anyways, I bought him, knowing they had him on feeder guppys. Now he is still young - not even 6" yet, so I'm hesitant to starve him. I've been dropping blood worms on his side of the tank for the last week, but to the best of my knowledge he doesn't eat them. Is there any food that sits on the bottom that might interest him? I was going to drop in some of my smaller frozen krill, but I'd like to know what's worked for others in the past.

I'll post pics of the little guy when his lights turn on tonight..... if he comes out that is...

Thanks for any help,
John

i wish to hell i could find another gold clown knife. mine jumped out on me. any ways i have had a few very large clowns. i would sugest sense he is still small keeping him on guppys. then as he gets a little larger, mix in some raw shrimp. mine imeditaly swhiched over to shrimp and talipia, and they were on feeders from 3in to 18-20in then as i learmed more about how bad they were. i started with the shrimp never had any problems

Thanks roadboy. I figured I'd have to keep him on live for a bit longer. Good to know the switch isn't too hard when they're older though.

Here are a couple pics. Couldn't get any really good pics because he still likes to hide.

My rck switched to frozen foods around 8" I believe. Took about a week of starving and trying to feed twice a day, eventualy he took it no problem. Shrimp and talapia stuffed with carnivore pellets. Shrimp I did notice he had firm poop with, so stuffed talapia was his main diet with shrimp treats every weekend. Unfortunatly I had to sell him at 19" to make room for new additions.

Keep trying with the frozen bloodworms. If you're worried about starving it for a long period, just go every other day to every other 2 days. That should help it take prepared foods.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG overdue update on Bobo my golden clown knife. I just realized I got him back in December, and he was barely 4" long. He now eats tilapia and stuffed silver sides nightly..... He's also massive. I didn't realize just how big he was until I looked at the pic of him next to my 9+ year old Sen Bichir, who's over 10" long. Pics below.
