Hi all, need some advice
Bought one pair motoro rays from shop today. Brought home and while doing drip method, the baby female died in the pail itself. So sad ?

My tank water parameters all ok. Ph is at 6. Nitrate and nitrite at 0. Ammonia at 0.25. cause I do live feed for my Asian aro... Shop water pH was at 7. Not sure if it was a pH shock. But I read most stingrays is between 6-7.5.
Pls advise on wat could have gone wrong. Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard

Tbh you should have 0 ppm of Ammonia and a positive Nitrate reading if zero normally means you're aquarium is not fully cycled. Stingray's will not survive in a aquarium with ammonia they themselves produce the most ammonia of all the freshwater species.

Hi there. Thank you for your response. Ok.. but I actually bought 2. 1 swimming around actively.. it's the other one tat died in 1 hour while dripping. And what the aquarium guy told me is that nitrate and nitrite should be 0 for rays. He also said Ammonia best is 0 but because I'm doing live feed for aro, it's very hard to achieve 0. So within 0-0.25 is still ok. So lost now.

Any advice on how to make ammonia completely 0? I used API ammo lock but still at 0.25. and did 30% water change today as well before rays came in.

Possibly the female Motoro was unhealthy prior to purchasing. No 0.25 is not acceptable when keeping any fish especially stingray. Like I stated earlier your aquarium is not fully cycled.
What is your water change routine?
How much water do you remove weekly?
Do you add dechlorinator during water changes?
I personally never like using things like ammo- lock it just complicates things imo.

True but agree with what twentyleagues twentyleagues stated most never achieve 0 Nitrate.

Bologna!!! With proper water changes and enough beneficial bacteria in your filter or filters to handle the bioload of the fish in the aquarium 0 ppm of Ammonia can easily be achieved even while feeding live.

Did he explain why feeding live foods causes elevated ammonia?

Did he tell you how many of his tanks had zero nitrate?

I'd love to hear what he has to say.

What's your maintenance schedule like? How long has the tank been setup?
0 nitrate is the holy grail of water parameters most keeper strive for but miss. 0 ammonia is easier achieved.

I do water change twice weekly. 25-30% water change. I just downgraded from a 6 feet to a 4 feet. The 4dt tank has been set up for about two weeks. I have my aro and tin foil inside. Just added the rays today and this happened.

I do water change twice weekly. 25-30% water change. Yes I add dechlorinator every water change. I'm also using a hangon filter, overhead sump and oasemaster canister filter as well.

He said live food causes elevated ammonia cause some of the uneaten food may get stuck in the filter and this causes ammonia and nitrate production. I'm not sure about his tank but I don't understand why my Ammonia doesn't go down to 0 despite my nitrate and nitrite being 0. I even added some live plants and all but still at 0.25.
