My LFS has a group of Channa. Owner claims they're from India and possibly a new strain of Dwarf Snakeheads called sp. Lipor. Anyone heard of them before? Was thinking of getting a group of four for $40!

You think 4 would be enough? Any special conditions i would need to breed this magnificent fishes? Water temperature and others? Any idea how big they can get?

HI,

Temp in the very low 20s , lots of leaves as hiding places. For more insofs resd the report of S. Meinig in the german Amazonas magazine, he was the one that bred them first.

So i'll definitely need a chiller for them?

Then I guess I'll have to give these fellas a pass. Thanks for the information.

..it depends on how cold they need to be..i keep my 40 gallon sculpin tank below 70o in the summer with nothing but a window fan blowing down on to to the water...

Kudo to Daniel for importing such beautiful species!

Btw christian, it is possible to reduce the temp down to 23 without a chiller. Just get some of those computer cooling fan or cheap clip-on fans and blow down against the water. You can also place the tank in an air-con room if possible.

If it is not enough, get a Dolphin chiller. C328 sell them. Should be affordable.

Guess the fan is a good idea. Thanks!

Still not getting it. If somehow after i set up my 4 footer completely and Daniel still has them in stock, i'll grab a group. Need to keep telling myself to focus on setting up the larger tank over constantly buying other fish. Thanks Ryan! Will definitely look into that.
