After many years of trying to reproduce the beautiful lamena, a pair spawned while I was away and the eggs hatched a day after I removed them. They should be free swimming in 6 days. I am thrilled because the only hope to reproduce this species is to use outdoor ponds and in their native home habitat degradation continues to push this fish closer to extinction.

Thank you Andrew. This is one of my favorite cichlids, it's got plenty of attitude and aggression to go along with its beautiful coloration. This is my theirs try, I started with 8 fish and lost a few to a matting pair of Theraps wesseli. Now this pair is supper calm and well established. I don't have good pictures as I keep the tank without light but here a shot of the fish

I'm really glad to hear of your success with this fish. My breeding pair, after spawning twice, died, first one and then the other two days later. I have no idea what went wrong... a real puzzle. I'll be trying them again to be sure.

Congratulations on such a rare accomplishment! Wonderful news for this species ~ and for you Jose :)
