My RTC jumped out of the tank while i was not home and died what i can only describe as an excruciating death, so here is a before and after of my tank.. gonna put my green terror in there since she is quickly outgrowing her 35

How come you do not have the tank covered. By not covering the tank the problem has a great chance of repeating itself.
the tank is covered but the lids are just quarter inch acrylic.. it knocked the lid off.. i am going to start putting heavy objects on top
If you have acrylic lids where is the space for nitrate to do its exchange to gas and rise into tge atmosphere. By trapping it under the acrylic lid it becomes dangerous to the tank.
i have a 1" wide strip that is open.. the lids are multiple pieces the piece he knocked loose is the smallest one all the way to the right on the other side of the air gap
Just get glass, made to fit and cheap. ~$30 = safe fish. I'd rather pay the extra money and not worry about it. I know it's too late for your rtc tho
