CO2 depends on plants you use I believe. If you use java fern and anaubus you wont need CO2, just decent lights. Read the stickies, they will help you out. Do some research, its really pretty useful, google the name of some plants that you like and you will get a better idea.

i want to keep plants that say they need low lighting, i was wondering if i still need a co2 kit for the plants,
You won't need CO2 with low light plants if you have low light, under 2 watts per gallon.

Plants need to eat just like your fish do. Get a full range of fertilizers and dose below the recomended dosage and see what happens and go from there.

CO2 is a fertilizer, also known as a nutrient.

CO2 is not something plants can live without. Be careful in your statements. All plants use co2 in the process of photosynthesis. Injection of pure co2 is not necessary, but co2 is.

He was asking about injection CO2 and I said it not needed for his setup hes asking about.

I based my response from all the question I been asking on all the different forums about plants that require low light, in a lower light setup they can live just fine with no CO2, so they don't need it, but would do better with it if your stocked with fish. It sounds like he might not want to mess with CO2.
Java fern will grow in a toilet with the lid shut with no CO2 injection ;)

yeah i think a lot of people get confused when they say/hear "no co2". as wyld said, all plants use and need co2 for photosynthesis. when people say plants dont need co2, it means you can get away w/o injecting co2 or adding a source of carbon like Flourish Excel and the plants will get what they can from the water/fish.

it doesnt mean the plants dont actually need co2

You have to be careful in your wording. Plants MUST have co2. However injection isn't always necessary. If a tank is run without surface agitation, and without co2 injection, and no fish/inverts, the plants will die from a lack of co2. It would be the same as putting a hamster in a air tight container. Once all the O2 is gone, the hamster suffocates.
