its a half gallong betta tank i picked up today that im gonna turn into a half gallon micro reef. :D im excited and my family is excited that im getting into things that have to be smaller and smaller rather than larger and larger (what a surprise). I have a filter for up to 3 gallons im gonna use on it which is 15 gallons per hour which would give me about 30 times turnover since i figure the thing to be about 0.6 gallons.

i need some tips from all the people with really tiny reefs out there. How do you keep it stable? would a 7watt CF light work? any special tips i should know? any thing helps :D Thanks

What about putting some grape caulerpa in there and seeding it with pods??

Rofl...a bunch of fuge trimmings couldn't fit in there! What's your plan? Looking forward to seeing how you do this :D

With lighting above & if kept in a warm room, you prbably won't need a heater.

i was thinking:

this light: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/215711/product.web

This heater: https://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/205219/product.web

This filter: https://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/214862/product.web

I was trying to decide between the 7w and the 9w light... the 9 watt would extend over the thing by an inch since its only 7 3/4 inches long. Which do you guys think? also should i get a small canister like the rapids canister? http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/prod/215656/product.web or maybe try to find a power filter that is 5 1/2 inches tall like my tank (i feel wierd calling it that with it being so tiny) and however wide? im gonna search around for options and see what i can come up with. :D im also gonna try to make a lid for it (should i be doing this with heat buildup and everything or should i just top it off each day?)

I would elevate the light some, use the 9w, and leave it open. Just top it off every day. I would also use the smallest protein skimmer I could find, and just use a 2-3" sand bed, more if you can, and keep the filtration at that. Any extra current you need, which would be doubtful, could be done with a bubble wand or airstone. I don't know what you plan on stocking it with, but I would stick with coralimorpharians and sarcopyton species, maybe a gorgonian or two. Much easier to dose for them then for stonies.
Good luck. nano's are hard work, be patient and meticulous. I'm thinking of trying a 2.5 at some point here. well see how it works out.
