So if things go according to plans I will be getting a 5" NGT datnoid for only $75. As far I know the NGT datnoid only takes frozen shrimp occasionally. Indos are pretty easy to take care of and convert, but heard NGTs are a pain when it comes to feeding, getting stable, slowest growing, etc.
  1. I have plenty of earthworms (chemical free), could I feed the NGT this? I'm only afraid that the NGT will no longer take frozen shrimp after it falls in love with earthworms.
  2. How to entice its appetite?
  3. All my indos are stable 90% of the time, is there a trick with NGTs? I have light color driftwoods, barebottom, and clay pots.
  4. The NGT is roughly 5", I have some 2.5-3" goldy plecos. Should I be worry? Heard NGTs have small mouths.
  5. I will be putting the NGT with my signature, see anything wrong with this?
  6. My tank: pH is 7.8 and temperature is 80-82F.
  7. Any tips or hints to taking care of them?
O yeah, V when you get a chance post a few pics of the NGT on this thread.

I care for my NGT's just like I would care for my IT's, they all eat the same food which happens to be thawed tilapia and swai and on occasion a quarantined feeder or two. I'm not to worried about the stability at this time, I'm just glad they are eating what I'm offering them. My four are around 5-6" and are still settling in. Being around other dats that will hit the thawed food quickly has helped them in my opinion to take to the new food quicker than they would if they were alone. Their mouths don't seem any smaller than any other dat at the same size. Your goldies should be fine along with your other fish. You could try to enhance your food with garlic juice to try to entice them more. Luckily for me they took to the frozen food after only about 2 weeks.

Not sure where u heard mcphishy, but the NGT in general is a much more stable fish than IT and NTT, I've always found easy to feed, 5 out of 6 NGT I have had ALL ate pellets.... No probes, exept one took which took a very long time
They can be aggressive especially if kept in groups.
No tricks to making them Stable, just time, patience and no hidin spaces , good water params and good quality food. U could try mucking about with set up , like substrate or bb, it might work it might not.

Plecs should be ok. Anything with spines that don't look appetising ... Tiger will not eat. I have 3-4 inch syno catfish with my large tigers for years now. Never seen them been
attacked.
Fatten it up on whatever it will eat first.
And also , It's never too late to convert a tiger to other foods.

I was under the impression that NGT are picky eaters and don't have a good appetite. Guess not. As far as I know the NGT takes shrimp, but not voraciously. So I figure fatten him up on earthworms. And then try to convert on either NLS or hikari cichlid gold.

Just an update, NGT is knocking down 4-5x earthworms daily. He only seems to be stable during feeding time. Then the rest of the time he has a green tint to him. Either ways still my new favorite datnoid.
