I have had my NGT since August it is 7" and is a bugger to feed. It will not under any circumstances accept dead food of any kind I have tried prawn mussel, cockle, whitebait, white fish fillet, blood worm all to no success. The only foods this thing has eaten is River shrimp when I feed it. Now this is becoming a problem as I don’t feed it that regularly I fed it about 4 times since August till November and didn’t feed river shrimp again till Wednesday of this week. So today I have whipped it out of them main tank and put it in its own tank. Now what’s my best course of action here to get it onto dead foods? Feed it up on feeders to get some weight back on it then get it on to dead who will probably be harder? I am at a bit of a loss to be honest. Here are a couple of pics of the fish now also does this look like a fish that has only eaten 8 times max in 10 months???

EAT OR DIE mate thats the rules just stick to them if the fish is so foolish to starve to death so be it then it doesnt want to live

just feed prawn and blood worm daily

Do you have any dats other than the NGT. I've got 2 dats and the bigger one was eating flake food at my LFS. I got another little guy who the LFS said wouldn't eat anything but blackworms. I took him home and put him in with the other dat who chased him around for like 2 days then all of a sudden they became friends. Weird but true I didn't even try blackworms seeing as I figured the new dat wouldn't eat anyway due to the stress of a new environment and the bigger dats aggression. Anyway I kept feeding the bigger dat flakes and after the aggression susided the little guy just took a que from the big guy and started eating the flakes. What I'm trying to suggest is another dat to set an example for your NGT. It's been my experience with all fish I own that another fish is the best teacher. When a food striking individual sees others pigging out they tend to follow suite. It's worked for me with various finiky cats and now indo dats. I hope this helps you an sorry I ran off at the mouth like that. It's funny I can be so quiet and then the slightest thing gets me goin on a tear like that. Anyway good luck with your dat he's a beauty.

yep, great looking ngt. i would just keep on trying w/dry food. my dats love krills, i had to hand feed 'em to start it off, but after that they're hooked on it

Yes I have the NGT, IT, NTT and till recently an ST but its not a case of monkey see monkey do with this fish.

I had the same problem. This was my technique.
Most Dats are shy at an early age.
So I set them up with a coconut cave or clay flower pot that they pretty much stay in for a long time. This will relieve stress and give them a sense of security.
then I shut the lights off: 1st I try dumping blood worms in front of the cave(after a while this usually works).
Then I move to frozen kryll, I use a clear feeding stick(clear plastic stick some times sharpened) to move the kryll around which makes them think it's alive, and then they strike!
This technique has worked for me very well, not sure if this seems odd,but it works!
