Hey MFK, I bought an NGT around 4 days ago, he's about 7-8''
Problem is, ever since i've had him in my tank,
hes been laying on his side, showing a dark color.
I know hes stressed, how do I get him to become stable?
I'm pretty sure he got shocked when moving home
I keep the lights off so he doesnt get stressed but whenever I see him, he always just laying on his side.
He doesnt seem like hes gonna die, because when I go near his side of the tank, he puts up his fins and moves away, but generally stays in the same area.
Should i wait it out, and keep the lights off until he becomes stable?
any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Is he literally laying on his side? Usually when I first get a dat in the tank they'll lean again the corner or something, never had one lay completely on the side, maybe someone else can help you moer there. If it is just because of the stress from moving, you'll probably begin to see him up normally after a few days to a week or two. I would definietly check your water parameters to make sure everything ok, maybe give him a hiding spot for the time being if he doesn't already have one? Getting him to become stable probably wont happen immediately, he may not be stable for months- I've found adding active tankmates helps to increase activity and stablenesss.

No need to worry, mines does the same thing. It'll lay in the back corner of the tank on it's side and does nothing. Swims around every so often and then back to the corner.

oh its regular? mines looks stressed like its colors became charcoal, and yea adding active tank mates does work, i see him get up sometimes, but still is very inactive.
in the corner dark as chrcoal.
one thing that makes me mad is if i peek from the corner hes swimiing(sometimes)
then when he sees me goes back to the corner. >:[!!!

When I got mine he was like how you described... That was when he was by himself in a quarantine tank, as soon as I added him to the main tank he was more outgoing but he still hides alot.

i got a 3-4 in one recently took about 2 weeks before it was comfortable. it would jsut lay in the corner and not eat at all. but now its pretty active and swims to the front of the tank waiting for food when i walk by

Give him time. Is he eating well? Does he seem more active during feedings? You can try adding aquarium salt to your tank also. 1 Tablespoon per 10g. This will usually stable him up. Lots of decorations and time will help your ngt be more comfortable and active. Pics?
