NGT keeps spitting out shrimp

I have an 8" NGT that I'm trying to get onto pellets. I tried to starve him to force him to eat pellets for a few weeks, but he just wouldn't take them. He looks really skinny now.

So I've been giving him small 1/4" pieces of cut up shrimp for 1 week now. He will smell the shrimp for a second and bite it and chew it, and then spit out the shrimp. I buy fresh shrimp for him so I know the shrimp is still good. Is there something I can do to make him not spit out the shrimp?

My NGT. I finally got mine to eat tilapia. I got em last year. I pretty much starved him for a long time. then Bloodworms, the trick is fatten him up. give him what he wants. then stop feeding then try after a few days or weeks. for me I mixed the tilapia with the bloodworms then he started to teethed it. then did that a few times. then did small tiny chunks of tilapia with out the bloodworms. he some pce's. now he is goes after it like crazy.

Give it a while more. Mine took market prawn after starving for a month with in between feeding of live shrimp. Spitting out is already a good sign from my opinion.
