Okay hey, so I have read many posts on this forum before, this is my first so nice to meet you all!
Right I'm having problems breeding my Nicaragua cichlids, It took me almost 4 months to get them to spawn, then finally, briefly when I woke up in the night to go the loo I thought I would check on my fish as you do, all of a sudden in the clay pipe there was probably 100ish eggs, now I do have many catfish in my tank so I did not expect these to survive, but they did a great job guarding them, I build up part of the tank specially for them so the catfish could not bother them, but then when I woke up one of the pair was hoovering the eggs like nobody was about! Then over the next 5 days they were fighting like crazy, they even beat one of my fully grown tinfoil barbs up to the point it was upside down floating I had to put them in a 20L for the night. They have now been reintroduced but It is so hard to get them to spawn. They spend a lot of time digging and creating a clear spot on the glass but nothing ever comes of it. What can I do to help them get going? By the way, they are in a 340L tank with 3 tinfoil barbs and a pair of convicts and a lot of bottom feeders. I already 4 tanks set up in my bedroom am I gonna have to set up a 5th? ¬¬ If it means getting them breeding, so be it. Oh and yes the eggs were yellow and fertile but they lasted no longer than 24 hours. I thought about taking them out but I know cichlids are genuinely good parents and I didn't want to mess the spawn up. Also, has anybody seen a convict x nica? What do they look like? >
