My singular nicaraguan cichlid female is digging a pit in the substrate as is the way with these fish. The puzzling part is there is no male in the tank with her of her breed. I know some cichlids can cross breed so can one of the many cichlids experts tell me if any of the following could mate with her and have caused her to start nesting.

Jack Dempsey
Oscar
Blue Acara
Golden Severum

Thanks in advance.

Mine just started doing it this past weekend - she's right around the 3-4" mark. I for the life of me couldn't tell you an age she has colored up just beautifully though.

Unless one of the other fish is staying very close to her she is probably just digging to be digging.

It is definately more then just digging for food or recreation, its a pit for the eggs and she just sits in it most of the time. No one other fish is staying close and the only fish i know for certain is a male is the JD. So can any of her tank mates that are male fertilise the eggs?? Do they not have to share similar genus or something.
