nicaraguensis Agression

Anybody ever keep a nicaraguensis and have him just snap?

I have a 75 with a 4-5 inch oscar a nicaraguensis and a couple of silver dollars. The Oscar has been in the tank since the begininng and the nic was added about 2 months ago. They seemed to have been living relatively peacefully. Every once in a while they would get into a scrape but nuthin really bad.

Yesterday I come home and my oscar is missing half his scales with quite a few scratches and the nic is belly up.

I'm guessing it was the nic that instigated the fight because because any of the tiffs that they got into in the past were started by him.

Man am I pissed it was a really nice fish

Thats the nature of Cichlids , My Oscars get along great and every once and a while they cick the crap out of each other, this will probably be a re occuring thing !!!

sounds like the O didnt feel like having a tankmate, some oscars are pretty mellow..then theres a few that dont like to have anything with them..

i 'had' one. about 4" and in a 75 with salvini and fm ~4" also at the time.
mine was not very aggressive at all. had a weird backpedal display during showdowns with the other fish. complete opposite i guess lol.

My nic is 6" and in a 75 with a 4"gt ,3"fm,and a pair of unknown saijeca 3"@2" t-bars maybe.The nic does have days that he asserts himself lets the others know that he's boss but has not really wounded his tank mates just nip some tails or knock off a scale or two.
